We invite youth 5th-8th grades to join Forest City YMCA Program Director Tony Reynolds for this hands on experience in beginner level carpentry skills.

  • Learn and practice basic construction skills such as measuring, cutting, and nailing.
  • Discover how to read and follow building diagrams to construct a fully functional building.
  • Learn the importance of shop safety and learn to be safe using hand tools.
  • Develop life skills that will benefit you in many way for years to come!

Boost Creativity & Inspire Brilliant Minds!!!

Master Builders is a deep dive into the construction techniques and architectural concepts involved in house building. Using scaled dimensional lumber made of balsa wood, participants ages 10-14 years old will follow detailed blueprints to frame a realistic 1:16th scale house.

Participants will learn about:

  1. Using construction techniques in accordance with the International Building Code
  2. Dimensioning the lumber to the scale of real lumber used in construction
  3. Reading house plan drawings
  4. Framing concepts and terminology used in house building
  5. Structural design and engineering
  6. And MUCH, MUCH More!!!
